2015

2015 has been a cracking year for North and West Coast Links and we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the groups that visited us throughout the year.

From small groups, to gangs to veritable battalions we've enjoyed hosting you all over the past 12 months.

In 2016 we will be encouraging all our visitors to take group photos and videos which we will post on our social media for posterity.

If you are planning a 2016 golfing vacation to Ireland make sure to Contact us here.

Like our Pro-Am group from the USA with Old Tom Morris in Rosapenna back in August!

And our EGTMA writers group who played Ardglass, Ballyliffin, Portstewart, Portrush, Castlerock and Rosapenna during their epic trip in April!

Roll on 2016!

It might be Christmas time but Frank and John Casey and all their team at Rosapenna Golf Resort have been working hammer and tongs on renovations to the 12th green on the Sandy Hills course so that it will be pristine come the start of the 2016 season.

This video montage of the work carried out is awesome.

Ardglass, located in Northern Ireland, is a dramatic links golf course set on a rugged coastline, with cliff tops and an ancient town as a backdrop. With water playing a prominent part in this courses, there are no fewer than 8 holes where the Irish Sea coastline comes into play. Just 30 south of Belfast and 25 miles from Royal County Down, Ardglass is perfectly situated to start your tour of links golf in the west and north west of Ireland. "The course is just incredible. Parts of it remind me of Pebble Beach in California: the par-5 11th skirts a bay where any sliced shot is wet; then you climb a hill to an elevated tee at the par-3 12th, where the green juts out into the water..” - Chris Jones, Deputy Editor –Today's Golfer".

Founded in 1894 Portstewart Golf Club was always a haven for the golfing purist. However, the reputation of the Strand Course was further enhanced by the building of new holes in the dunes between the Atlantic Ocean and the River Bann in the late eighties. Now the Strand course is a must for those embarking on golf travel in Ireland.
Huge dunes are complemented by stunning views across the bay to the blue Donegal hills. Every shot in the bag will be tested. This is a true links course with fast greens in excellent condition all the year round. Portstewart played host as a qualifying venue in the 1951 British Open and has held all the major amateur national Championships. It is an uncontested view that Portstewart has the best opening hole in Irish Golf.
Well, here’s a secret – it might be the best opening hole in all of golf. Come and see it for yourself – with some beautiful 5 Star Castle Hotels along with other fantastic hotels and guesthouses in the north of Ireland, the Causeway Coast is a fantastic golf destination.

Two outstanding, contrasting links course and 36 wonderful holes make up one of the finest golf resorts to be found anywhere in the world - Ballyliffin Golf Club.

The Old Links undulates in the glory of its natural terrain, presenting an immensely enjoyable challenge to every golfer. Work recently undertaken by Nick Faldo, one of Europe’s most successful golfers – with victories at the US Masters at Augusta, The Open and on Ryder Cup Teams, has resulted in an Old Links that has been refined and what is now a fantastic golf course. The Old Links hosted the European Seniors Tour in June 2008- The Irish Seniors Open.

The new Glashedy Links is fashioned around the incredible dunes, and is already notorious for its peat riveted bunkers and its opening three challenging par fours. The expansive panoramic views of countryside, coastline and ocean savoured by these magnificent links course will not easily be forgotten.

The Glashedy Links has hosted the Irish Inter-provincial Championships in 2006, the European Tour, North West of Ireland Open in 2002 and the Ladies European Tour, Ladies Irish Open in 1998.

The hands of golfing greats have shaped and moulded the golf links at Rosapenna. In 1891, while a guest of Lord Leitrim at his nearby estate, Old Tom Morris of St. Andrews, a winner of four British Opens in the 1860’s took a drive to enjoy the Donegal scenery. Morris was quick to see the golfing potential of this fine stretch of Donegal coastline and he staked out the first Rosapenna Links.

A full century later Frank Casey, today’s owner of Rosapenna, dreamed a dream, a second 18 hole golf links in the dunes overlooking the Old Tom Morris masterpiece. He entrusted the realisation of this dream to Pat Ruddy who mastery of links design is matched only by his knowledge and enthusiasm for the game of golf.
Rosapenna Golf Resort is now home to two of the finest courses to be found – The Old Tom Morris Links and the new Sandy Hill Links. Add to this a magnificent four star golf hotel, tennis court, swimming pool and all the facilities you would expect from a top class golf links hotel and resort.

Narin and Portnoo Golf Club is situated in a beautiful seaside resort in southwest Donegal. Opened in 1930, it is engagingly old fashioned with a meandering routing over and around the dunes. The course has recently been re-developed and the new par 73 layout offers a range of teeing areas and challenges to suit all golfers.

All manner of shots are required here: draws around sharp dog-legs; crisp irons to par threes over cavernous terrain; accurate tee shots down snake-like fairways, some wide and some not so generous; low trajectory shots into the Atlantic breezes.

A warm and friendly welcome awaits visitors and societies to Narin and Portnoo Golf Club and due to its links terrain, it is ideal for year-round golf.

This outstanding links golf course offers a genuine challenge to the accomplished golfer and is an all round “true” test of golf. Being one of the longest golf courses in Ireland and Europe, it is ideally suited to big hitters of the ball. The reputation of Donegal Golf Club at Murvagh, designed by the legendary course architect Eddie Hackett, has been further enhanced by the new designs of Pat Ruddy.

Continually featured in Golf Worlds Top 100 Courses in Ireland & Great Britain, this is a real challenge not to be missed. Darren Clarke, one of the heroes of the resent Ryder Cup held at the K Club, has described Donegal Golf Club as “one of my favourite courses in the World”.

Carne Golf Course was the last links golf course to be designed by the late Eddie Hackett and is now believed by many who have played there to be his greatest challenge. Carne is one of those finest golf courses in Ireland to have opened in recent years and it can only be described as a hidden gem. Situated on the west coast of Ireland, Carne lies in the splendid sand dunes overlooking Blacksod Bay, the legendary Inis Geidhe and Inis Gluaire Islands and dramatic Achill. Affording little disturbance to the natural and unspoilt environment that surrounds it, Carne is "everything you could ever ask for from the 1st tee to the 18th green" , - James W. Finnegan.

If you are thinking of taking a golf break in Ireland, why not fly into Knock Airport Mayo and play Carne and some of the other great links golf courses in our group.
