I'm here doing my thing for Ireland's North and West Coast Links at the Honda Classic; admittedly with one eye on the Irishmen in the field on the first to the left of me and the 18th to the right!

I'm here representing Ireland's North and West Coast Links near the first tee and 18th green at PGA National and the place is absolutely buzzing during the first round of the Honda Classic.

Then who walks up with the broadest smile in Florida only Shane Lowry! He has just tapped in for eagle on the final hole after stitching a 3-iron from 243 yards.  He finished on 3 under par, jointly topping the leaderboard at the moment,which is an incredible score given the howling wind out here.

Giving Away The Dream Irish Links Golf Vacation at The Honda Classic!

Ireland has a great affinity with The Honda Classic on the PGA Tour and we are honoured to be here this week promoting North and West Coast Links Golf in Ireland.

The food smelled lovely last night at the Pro Am dinner,  but myself and Brendan Kehoe from Swing Golf were far too busy working to get distracted!

Every year, as part of the Irish Trade,  we help out with local charities in West Palm Beach county. To date the Honda Classic, over 35 years, have raised $28 million for charitable causes and the target this year is to raise the $2 million to take them over the  $30 million mark. We raised $4,200 with our Irish Trip giveaway today - bringing our total to $20,000 raised over the past five years.

More good is that Honda as sponsors have just committed to another 5 years making it the longest association with any tournament.

Links golf is filled with unique moments like this, and when you play, you can't help but think of a different, timeless era of the game. There are few carts, there are golfers of all ages hitting shots that bump along rippled fairways to large, challenging green sites, and everyone is happy.
Not to say this doesn't happen in North America, but links golf is a tremendous way to reinvigorate your love for the game, and northwest Ireland is a tremendous place to do it.
While the trophy tracks of the south, or the iconic links golf courses in Northern Ireland may call to you and your group, the northwest courses -- I played six in five days -- are just as beautiful, exciting, and worth the adventure. For the most part, they are also more affordable.
Checking courses off your "bucket list" are as good a reason as any to go to Ireland, but you can easily find some new gems that will make you want to return again and again.

Myself and John Farren from Ballyliffin GC caught up with GMac for a chat.

It's always great to catch up Graeme McDowell and he was in top form unveiling his latest range of GMac by Kartel clothing for the new season at the 2016 PGA Show.

Graeme told us he has renewed confidence after winning on the OHL Classic on the PGA Tour just before Christmas.  His 2016 season may just be busiest of his career with PGA and European Tour committments along with potential Olympic Games and Ryder Cup appearances.

GMac also told us to expect our phones and emails to be hopping as huge numbers of people are enquiring about his home course of Portrush, venue for The 2019 Open Championship and North and West Coast Links member.

The 2016 North and West Coast Links Brochure Is Out!

North and West Coast Links were joined by several of our partners and colleagues to showcase our fantastic courses to the attendees of the 2016 PGA Show at the Golf Ireland stand.

The 2016 PGA Show was a huge week not just for North and West Coast Links but for Irish Golf Tourism as a whole.

Once again we played our part in organising the annual Irish Golf Day at the fantastic Streamsong Golf Resort.  We have christened it "a little part of Ireland" out in Florida with its hard pan links terrain.  If a US Open needed an emergency venue in the morning, Streamsong would be ready; it's that good!

The day gave us, and our colleagues in the Irish golf tourism industry, a chance to spend time with and thank some of the key people involved in bringing tourism to Ireland.  Golf is unique in that it gives us all a chance to converse, play, have fun and most importantly it provides a platform on which to forge strong and lasting friendships.

We were also delighted to be joined on the day by Ireland and Liverpool soccer legend Ronnie Whelan.
